TRANSFORMING VISION INTO ACTION: GROW AI’S IMPACT-DRIVEN JOURNEY
As we close out the first edition of the Grow AI accelerator, our latest AI for Social Impact accelerator, we’re reminded of the incredible potential for social impact when innovation meets purpose.
Over the past six months, Grow AI has been more than just an impact accelerator - it’s been a space for knowledge, transformation, and collaboration for 13 exceptional organizations harnessing the power of artificial intelligence and machine learning to tackle some of society’s most pressing challenges.
In this post, we reflect on the journey, key milestones, and lessons learned from our latest program, while looking ahead at the evolving landscape of AI for good and impact entrepreneurship.
OUR APPROACH: WHAT MAKES GROW AI UNIQUE
Grow AI accelerator is designed with the mission to provide social entrepreneurs with equity-free, specialized support to leverage AI for social impact. By bridging the gap between tech and impact, Grow AI stands out in three important ways:
Equity-free support: participants had access to up to $250,000 in grant funding and as an equity-free accelerator, Grow AI enables organizations to maintain full ownership and decision-making power, allowing them to develop their missions without compromise.
Customized expert guidance tracks: Grow AI’s curriculum is designed to meet the participants' needs, and was delivered in collaboration with expert mentors from Social Tides, Google for Startups and Google.org networks. The capacity building program - covering a range of topics from business sustainable growth, to AI ethics and impact strategy - is structured to address the challenges and opportunities that organizations face at the intersection of technology and impact.
Peer community & global network: through Grow AI, participants became part of a dynamic community of social entrepreneurs, experts, and mentors across Europe. These connections have fostered mutual support and knowledge exchange, helping each participant gain new insights to support their business development.
Alumni community: through our community, Social Tides alumni remain connected to our network and have opportunities for ongoing learning and collaboration even after the acceleration program ends.
The Social Tides program by Google.org has been instrumental in helping vitalera scale our impact in the healthcare sector. The mentorship, resources, and network provided is amazing. Nuria Pastor, Vitalera

REFLECTIONS AND LESSONS LEARNED
As we look back on the Grow AI journey, reflecting on successes and ways to refine our support model, we want to share some key insights gathered along the way:
Tailored mentorship for lasting impact: the 1-to-1 guidance provided by expert mentors proves to be an invaluable support to impact organizations looking to scale their impact, and a strong mentor-mentee match can really make all the difference.
Bridging both soft and hard skills with practical application: graduates emphasized the value of guidance in areas like project and team management, along with topics such as marketing, tech development, and AI tools of operations. Across all topics, one priority stood out: the guidance needed to be realistic and immediately actionable.
Community as a foundation for growth: community support emerged as a powerful aspect of the program experience, with participants valuing peer interactions and shared learnings. This network offered a space to navigate common challenges, gain support, and celebrate progress alongside like-minded founders.
Through mentorship, I gained valuable insights into structuring workflows and managing projects more efficiently. Implementing these strategies not only streamlined our operations but also empowered our team to tackle larger challenges with confidence. Jenny Romano, The Newsroom
ACCELERATOR STORIES: AI FOR SOCIAL IMPACT IN ACTION
Each graduate organization in Grow AI’s second edition brought a unique impact strategy, vision and mission to the program. Here are a few stories, illustrating the social or environmental impact they’re making and the role Grow AI played in accelerating their progress:
TALENTI
Mission: A platform that supports women in the recruitment process and connects candidates with the right employers, with a mission to find every woman a job that fits her needs.
Progress through Grow AI: The team pivoted to increasing impact for women by organizing focus groups with female users to refine ZOE’s development, an AI Career Assistant and learn how to address their unique needs. Collaboration with AI partners introduced new functionalities, including a free test AI tool aimed at improving user competence. Substantial progress was made toward launching the English version of ZOE, broadening its accessibility. Financial strategy adjustments included pricing the mobile application and securing a six-month client collaboration under a new business model.

Many topics were important to us and provided a point for discussion, action and, as a result, change. But for sure: working on the theory of change strongly helped us get back to a place where we have an impact to realize. The sessions on AI, DEI or leadership tools were very helpful in strengthening us as an organization. Participation still has that aspect of appreciation. And it helps to keep going! Agnieszka Kaczanowska, Talenti
Atelier Riforma
Mission: A technological service that aims to be the solution to textile waste, using a circular economy to find a purpose for each discarded garment by maximizing its value and creating new jobs.
Progress through Grow AI: Team efforts aimed at training new team members, enhancing social media credibility and defining customer engagement strategies. They successfully organized the "Circular Fashion Days" festival, expanded their professional network, and engaged in impactful research projects, such as the ICESP report. The mentorships were crucial in refining customer acquisition processes, monitoring KPIs, and leveraging AI. Despite some hurdles, the team had notable successes including winning grants, expanding collaborations, and excelling at networking events. Communication efforts maximized visibility, with positive media coverage and investor support highlighting their achievements.
